Very late at night during summer 2018, 6th grader Melanie S. had an ultimatum of volleyball or cheerleading. She chose volleyball.
At first she didn’t like volleyball, but then she started to really love the sport 7th grade year. “I love my team and the way we play together.”
One year later, Melanie sits comfortably on the edge of her stool answering every question in confidence in Mrs. Huffman’s classroom. She is very concentrated in the interview while chatter is all around. She is wearing a white shirt with flowers on it, pink checkered vans and dress pants.
Melanie says her coach always told her team “Next play,” which means if you make a mistake, don’t worry about it focus on next play.
She still uses this quote in her life today by just letting things go. Her coaches, Mr. Colvin and Mrs. Hix encourager her in the game to have fun instead of being really strict.
Her career in gymnastics for 8 years has helped agility in the sport. She says “I look forward to playing in high school as a middle blocker.”
