7th grader Ainsley S. started gymnastics at about 2 years old, and now, 10 years later, she is still in gymnastics and can’t wait for what this year is going to bring her. She has always had a passion for gymnastics. So let’s get to know how she started out to be a gymnast.

Ainsley has been doing Gymnastics since she was 2, but started competing when she was 6. She started at that young of an age, not only because her mom owns a gym called Redlands Gymnastics Club (the one she goes to now), but also because she saw that she had a passion for it!

Even though her mom owns the gym doesn't mean she does gymnastics because she is forced, but because she loves to flip and wanted to start competing like her sister and mom. It runs in the family with her mom, sister, and aunt all doing gymnastics at one point in time. “Although I grew up around gymnastics doesn’t mean that I don’t like to do it and don’t have interest in gymnastics,” she explains.

When she first gets to her competition she checks herself in, then she’ll go to her first event, warmup for about 7 minutes, then she’ll compete on that event. Then she goes to her next event, warms up, then competes. She does the same thing over and over again. She also loves when it’s her turn to compete, and she can feel the adrenaline when she goes on. Before she goes on to compete, she always tells herself “It’s ok to fall, but I need to try!”

Ainsley has a trampoline at home so she can practice tumbling, but when it comes to other events she can't really practice. For beams she said she "will use these wooden beams on my floor to practice."

Ainsley is so glad that she is still able to practice and can’t wait for her season to start back up again. If you are interested in gymnastics or any tumbling classes make sure to go and sign up for Redlands Gymnastics Club. You might even see Ainsley!
