Mullets, neon colors, leg warmers, and many more were trends back in the 80s. Trends in the 90s were animal-print dresses, corsets, and even being a little bit hippy! Trends have always been around, in every nook and cranny in the world, including at RCS.
One trend that is immediately noticeable on our campus is ripped jeans. Everywhere you walk on campus you see someone wearing ripped jeans. Even a few that might not be dress code!
Some students may be a bit sneaky when it comes to the dress code. One anonymous 7th grade student said she was warned about a pair of jeans with a hole by the top pocket, but that didn't stop her from wearing them again. ¨Instead I just wore spandex under them,¨ she laughed when recalling the story. Many students wear shorts or leggings under ripped jeans to prevent being dress-coded. Some students even sew fabric to the back of the holes to be sure they fit in the dress code.
There are many other trends as well, many of which come from the popular app TikTok. 7th Grader Aubri Skipper says, ¨Some trends that I follow are dancing trends from TikTok, big hair clips in my hair, and oversized t-shirts.¨
There are different categories of trends, like dancing. These trends on TikTok are some of the biggest trends of 2019-2021. One of these trends is the Renegade dance by Jalaiah Harmon. Hairstyles like hair clips and curtain bangs are very trendy too. Trends for clothing include big t-shirts, cropped tops, ripped and baggy jeans, and Vans. As you can see, there are many kinds of trends all over the place!
7th grader Victoria Urso says ¨A trend that I follow is the long hair clips because everyone has them.¨
As middle school students, we love being independent and unique but we also like to follow trends and be trendy! 7th grader Emma Miller says ¨I love following trends because it makes me happy. ¨
