The Joy of Baking

By Samantha K.

Victoria U. was always interested in baking. When she was younger she would walk into the kitchen, and the smell of fresh baked pastries filled the room. In the evenings, Victoria would smell deliciously cooked dinners. The pleasant smell of pastries and other goods would always fill her kitchen, making her kitchen a sweet and savory fragrance. Her aunt would consistently cook and bake, and that motivated her to start her baking and cooking journey.

Victoria started practicing baking by helping make pies, cupcakes, cakes, macarons, etc. Each time it filled her with the excitement and desire to bake more. Even though she could, and might mess up, it would never keep her down and stop her because she is always willing to keep trying and moving forward. Now, she bakes and cooks for her family, and she tries to make new things all the time. She has a passion for creating and coming up with new lovely and interesting recipes in her free time.

On a cool fall morning, it was Thanksgiving. She woke up with the wondrous smell of a sweet and loving aroma, the scent led her to the kitchen. Victoria walked downstairs with a tired expression, and walked into the kitchen. Victoria silently gasped in delight, she saw everybody working really hard to get ready for the feast. The aroma of sweetness filled the air while everyone was baking and cooking. Victoria decided to help with the baking, so she helped by making a pie.

She made the dough first, then started to set up her space for the next step. A big puff of flour spread through the air, heading towards her face. She put the dough on top of the flour, engulfing it with the flour by pressing the flour everywhere on the dough. She then rolled out the dough. Afterwards she made the filling. When she tasted the filling, Victoria said, “It tasted like sweet, warm berries.” When they cooked the pie, the house filled with the aroma of sweet berries with the smell of bread. The kitchen smelled delightful. When it came out, Victoria got to try the pie, eating the first slice. She was amazed. Victoria said that, “All of the flavors burst out into her mouth like water balloons being thrown on grass.” This is when she felt the desire that cooking and baking would be her passion.

Victoria really has an impact on cooking and baking. She says, “I really love baking, because it fills me with joy and delight!” Her family is full of great, amazing bakers and cooks. She finds this very inspiring because it shows how hard and effective they work, and all of the fun they have whilst baking and cooking. She believes that she will be able to do the same, and she is hoping she can have the pleasure of making her parents proud and joyful. Baking is a big part of Victoria's life.
