This year, RCMS has started a new tradition— the house system!
Recently, all the teachers and students at RCMS were randomly placed into 5 houses. Our principal, Mr.Spear, hopes that this new tradition will last for the next hundred years. He says that the house system will be a great way to build community in our middle school.
The house system is a system in which teachers and students are placed into groups that they grow closer to and bond with. The houses allow students and teachers to belong to a small group in a big school. Students and teachers will stay in the same house for the duration of their middle school experience.
The five houses will compete against each other for points. One way to earn points is by getting tickets. A student can earn a ticket by participating in class, doing their work well, or being kind and helpful. Each week, the tickets are counted and Mr. Wiers announces which place each house is in.
Multiple people were asked about how they felt about the new tradition and there was variety amongst their responses.
“I love it because the green house is the best!” said Mr.Beebe.
Some students disagree and do not like the house system. Some 7th graders think the system would be better if we switched houses every year. These students think that by switching houses every year, students would have more opportunities to get to know their peers.
The five different houses are Tharros, Igesia, Epimelia, Efthyni, and Synergasia.

Tharros is the house of courage and is represented by a horse. Tharros is the blue house, symbolized by the Biblical character, Esther.

Igesia is the purple house of leadership and is depicted by a lion. Igesia is represented by the Biblical character, Moses.

Epimelia is the house of diligence and is portrayed by an elephant. Epimelia is the yellow house, symbolized by the Biblical character, Noah.

Efthyni is the green house of responsibility and is depicted by a bear. Efthyni is represented by the Biblical character, Samuel.

Synergasia is the house of cooperation and is symbolized by a wolf. Synergasia is the orange house portrayed by the Biblical character, Abraham.
The house system is a great way to bring community to our middle school. With fun competitions and interesting experiences, this year is sure to be one of the best!
