7th grader Alexa F. sat in the art room excited to start the first art project of the year. Then she noticed that one of her projects she thought was missing, a picture of three trees made of oil pastels from last year, was hung up in the art room next to a bunch of other talented artists. She said, “I was surprised it was there because I had been looking for it.” Three weeks after this realization, Alexa Fernandez sits at the round table in room 414 playing with the kinetic sand found in the supplies bucket. She sits thinking intently about the questions she’s been asked in that noisy room, but she keeps answering with “I don’t know” over and over. Really trying to recall her past and things to tell about herself, she still pokes and plays with the sand.

When I asked her if she did art class and if she liked it, she said, "Yes, it’s my favorite part of the day.” Alexa Fernandez doesn’t exactly know when she got into art, she has just always loved it. She enjoys all types are art like painting and drawing, but her favorite is drawing. Alexa does art class and she loves it, but everyone has favorites. Her favorite art project was trying to recreate a sunflower that was on the board.

Alexa says, “It is my favorite because the sunflower is my favorite flower and I just love to draw.”

She is looking forward to more projects that have to do with any form of drawing. Alexa loves art enough to pursue it as a career if she can, but she will definitely do it in high school. Although Alexa Fernandez loves art, she also highly enjoys reading. She mostly enjoys reading fictional books; her favorite book is a book called Stargirl. Around average Alexa tries to read about an hour each day. “I love reading because it's very relaxing to get lost inside a story,” Alexa says. Overall Alexa’s favorite things to do are art and reading. They are her favorite pastime. She enjoys to sit back and read on her free time or just draw. She hopes to continue art in the future and hopefully do it as a career.
