Review: The Boots of Change

Legend has it that an old Colorado cowboy stopped by the Hyer boot store on his way back from a cattle drive and requested some boots that were different from his old civil-war boots. This is the glorious day where cowboy boots were invented. Now, these new boots were different from the old ones, the style and feel was different and better. Fast forward a couple hundred years to the dreaded year, 2020, on Christmas eve at my Grandparents. I was given a pair of boots, made by Tecovas.

Tecovas was created by Paul Hendrick in 2014 after quitting his job in New York. Today Cowboy boots are expensive and the styles are not that great. Tecovas fixed that in 2014 by making hand-made, quality boots at a fair price and with great style. I have owned four different boot brands since I was young: Wolverines, Justin’s, Ariats, and Tecovas. Even though I have only had my Tecovas for a couple weeks, I will already say hands-down they are the comfiest and most stylish boots. Now, I am not saying that Justin’s and Wolverines and Ariats are not good, in fact they are great boots, but Tecovas are better because the level of comfort is higher and the style is more exquisite.

An important thing to know is the size that you want. Now obviously you want the right length, but you also need to take into consideration the width. Say you are an 11 like me, you will come across 6 different sizes, 11B all the way to 11EEE. The B is the smallest, and then EEE is super wide. To make sure you have the right size, when you try it on, it should feel snug, but not too tight on the sides of your feet. If it feels tight on your toes like they have to curl, then you need a bigger size length wise.

Depending on the size of your boot, style, and Material, the Price range will differ. You are looking at about $225 for the most popular ones and about $300 on average. Now, in other brands, for the same quality you are looking at about $600 on average. This goes manly for dress boots, work boots are normally cheaper, around like $100-$170.

My Tecovas’ boots are Dress boots, so I wouldn’t work in them, they are made for dancing and casual wear. The Pull strap, Shaft, and in-step are leather. As time goes on, the leather will age and become beautiful. They also come with a care guide to make your boots last longer and age beautifully. These boots will change the way you look and feel, and not hurt your wallet as bad as other brands will.
