Ready, Set, Goal!

By Paige B.

At age three, Maddy V. was pushed into soccer by her dad. She hated it at first but didn’t really have a choice since her dad made her play. Maddy said, “Even though I was forced, I grew to love it over time.” After playing soccer for 9 years, she loves the sport and it became her passion. Her dad inspired her to get better because he was super good when he was young and Maddy wants to be like him. Maddy lives in Yucaipa but does everything in Redlands.

Now Maddy’s favorite thing to do is play soccer and her favorite soccer player is Renaldo who plays for Manchester United. Something unique about Maddy is that she is a lefty. When she is older she hopes to become a professional soccer player or athletic therapist. She started off playing AYSO and now she plays on Redlands Extra, which she has played on for four years. She is hoping that her team will turn into an united team soon. She doesn’t play for the RCMS soccer team though. Maddy said that it’s because she doesn’t really want to.

Every weekend Maddy looks forward to soccer games. She also enjoys sand soccer because she is good at it and she gets to be at the beach all day, which makes her super happy. The position she plays is left defense and she likes it the best. Maddy said, “It’s my favorite position because I’m a lefty and I've been playing defense for a long time.” Her least favorite position is goalie. Maddy said, “I hate goalie because I don't really like diving for the ball and getting hit in the face.”

Maddy plans on playing soccer for the rest of her life. If she could play on any soccer team she would want to play on Sacramento Public FC since it is in California and she does not want to leave California. In order to do that, Maddy hopes to become a better soccer player and win more soccer games so she can achieve her goals. The farthest place Maddy has ever traveled for soccer is out of state.

Kendall M., one of Maddy’s friends, said, “I think she is really good and she has a lot of potential.”

When Maddy isn’t on the soccer field there are lots of other things she likes to do. One example is that she likes to read. Her favorite book is The Hunger Games. Maddy really enjoys reading in the car since it doesn’t make her sick. Also she likes to play video games and her favorite video game is Apex.

Sometimes it’s too exhausting to go to school and play soccer. Maddy said, “Sometimes I go to school and I’m too tired to go soccer.” She still goes to soccer every time because she is forced to by her dad, since her dad is the assistant coach.

Although we may be tired all the time from our activities they can be a lot of fun. Everyone should just keep doing what they love and what their heart tells them to do while they have fun.
