About one year ago, 7th grader Finnley O. decided he wanted to become an architect. He says, “I want to become an architect because I like designing things.” He carries a sketchbook around to draw his ideas for houses in his free time.
Now, on a sunny September morning Finnley sits in noisy 7th grade English class at Redlands Christian Middle School staring at the school’s library. He sits on a yoga ball bouncing slightly slightly. As I ask him questions he holds up a fake microphone as he makes his Jimbob Quartez, his made up news reporter, voice.
This idea of becoming an architect all started on a hobby of drawing. The hobby started about one year ago when he drew a small house on a corner of a piece of paper. Now he wants to become an architect because of that small house. He says,“ I like to design things because it's a good way to express creativity.”
Usually he designs the outside of house, but occasionally he will design the inside. But it does not stop there he usually just designs stuff that comes to his mind. He says, “The main type of houses that I usually design are modern houses.”
The future is bright for his architect ideas.
Thank you, Ava, for writing this! This is something I never knew before!
