On Thursday, Sept. 5, the RCMS Football Team began their season vs. Rio Hondo Prep at home on the High School Baseball Outfield.

At 4:00 PM, Coach DeJong and four other coaches led the team out onto the field and into the first game of the season. Rio Hondo Prep traveled to the field to face the team in what turned out to be an epic game.

Before the game, Coach DeJong said, “I’m confident that the team is ready to play. The eighth graders are faster and stronger than last year, and the seventh graders have a lot of talent.”

It was a challenge, though. Previously, Rio Hondo Prep played with an eleven man roster, but this year they played with only their best eight players. But the Eagles were not worried - they were prepared for the battle. Seventh grader Wyatt G. said, “I’m 95% sure we’re going to win. Our team has a lot of talented players, and many returning players have great experience.”

That experience certainly paid off. Eighth grader Diego C. lead the team to victory with four touchdowns, only half of their final score. The Eagles scored 56 points total, Rio Hondo scoring 23. However, the win was not a surprise to the team. They believe this may be the beginning to a long and victorious season.
