At 3 years old, Alyssa walked into her first dance class that her mom signed her up for, and she was ready! As she got signed in she could already feel excited. Now, 9 years later, she is still in love with dance and is still doing dance classes.
Alyssa loves dance because "it is fun to improve!" Alyssa exclaimed. When I asked why she started dancing she said jokingly, "because my mom signed me up."
Alyssa does tap, ballet, jazz, and lyrical, but her favorite one to do is jazz, "because you move around a lot and it is up beat."
When Alyssa dances, she looks up to her older cousin who ends up being in the same class as her. In Alyssa's dance classes she moves up levels. Every time she improves, she gets to move up. She is now dancing in classes with older girls.
As Alyssa dances, she says she enjoys every bit, with a new exception: "except the mask now because of Covid." Her classes are still at the same time and place, but she has to social distance and they all have to wear masks.
I asked Alyssa if she thinks her involvement in dance classes has helped her become better at other hobbies like drama. She said, "Yes, definitely! Because when you are in drama there are a lot of dancing numbers, so being in dance helps me learn them quicker."
Alyssa shares that she will continue to love dance as she gets older.
