In 7th grade, we read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Below are some acrostic poems students wrote about the characters.
Perhaps you think this name is fake
Or maybe just a simple mistake
Not even in a million years he would disown, dislike, or disclaim his hair
Yearns to smoke so much, he is a chimney
Brave as a firefighter, Peony immersed himself into a blazing fire to save a couple of children
Other members of the gang wonder why he loves movies, school, and track
Youngest of the three, and is as smart as can be
--by Alexa F.
Juvenile hall is where he's headin'
Only if he continues livin'.
Hot fudge Sunday was the last meal of life. (possibly)
Never would have happened if he wouldn’t have had his knife.
Not the life he was wishin'
Yet it’s the only life he could have been givin'
--by Vanessa L.
Ponyboy’s pride and joy is his hair,
Only fourteen years old,
Never turns downs a coca-cola, and smokes like a blazing fire.
Young, and enjoys school.
But never uses his head, and
On like the Flash he runs,
Youth is on his side
--Cayla N.
Dally’s tough, ready to fight
Always watching, has a gun not in sight
Laying around, rough as leather
Leading the gang, they stay together
Also a caring side, but not shown
Sad, but if he got the letter, would his heart have grown?
--Lilly R.
Created strife between Socs & greasers,
Her goal is that
Everyone realizes that it’s
“Rough all over”.
Recognizing nice boys are as hard to find as a needle in a haystack, she
Yearns to seek out boys who seem confident, draw attention to themselves.
Valiantly being the greasers’ spy, she is
Aware of the rumbles going on. She
Loves watching stunning sunsets, which shows
All people are equal.
Normally she thinks in a different point of view, but yet she
Carefully she avoids seeing the killer of her beloved,
Eyes joyful gems with her loyal love.
